Medical peels

When applied on the skin, exfoliating substances have an anti-aging effect, brighten up the skin and help to treat acne. Some treatments can be used before special occasions (they immediately improve skin quality and firmness and one can return to normal daily activities straight afterwards or use them before an important event), some of them are followed by exfoliation for several days. The right treatment for a given problem is chosen during medical consultation. Most treatments are performed in series to achieve optimal result. The best time to use them is in the autumn and winter. (Cosmelan, Dermamelan, mandelic, glycolic, TCA, salicylic peels)

It is a group of treatments that help to exfoliate the epidermis and/or deep layers of the skin to a certain depth, depending on the applied preparation. A treatment with acids offers completely different results than a traditional scrub, as it gradually loosens chemical bonds between the cells of the horny layer and intercellular cement, and in effect we get rid of the top layer of dead cells. In addition, the substances contained in acids penetrate deep into the skin and affect the remodelling and production of collagen and elastin – the two supporting agents in the skin. A full therapy requires several treatments, repeated once every two weeks. Acid peels help to eliminate fine lines. They help with acne therapy, reduce scars, eliminate enlarged pores. In result, the skin is rejuvenated and regenerated.

We use the following acid peels:

  • mandelic
  • glycolic
  • pyruvic
  • salicylic
  • trichloroacetic
  • peels with lactic acid
  • mixed peels

Indications for a medical peel are as follows:

  • signs of skin aging
  • skin lacks radiance, has uneven surface, becomes less firm and elastic, fine lines
  • discolorations (postinflammatory, caused by the sun, hormonal, hyperpigmentation)
  • seborrhea, enlarged pores, blackheads
  • therapy for common acne (acne punctata and pustular acne)
  • treatment of acne complications (shallow atrophic scars, postinflammatory discolorations)
  • stretch marks
  • keratosis pilaris (chicken skin) on the face, upper and lower limbs.

Any questions?

1/ How long does a treatment last?
The treatment takes no longer than 30 minutes.

2/ Do I have to prepare for the procedure? If so, in what way?
A week before the scheduled peel, do not use any depilation, mechanical peels, retinoids, or skin irritants. Men should not shave on the day of appointment.

3/ Are there any contraindications to the procedure, and if so, what are they?
Contraindications to the treatment are skin allergies, active herpes, tendency to develop keloids. The treatment is not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

4/ Will I feel any discomfort or pain during the procedure?
Sometimes during the procedure, patients may feel a slight discomfort, such as a burning sensation on the skin, some redness and burning may also occur after the procedure, but these should pass after several days. After this time, intense exfoliation of epidermis can be observed. It is a normal phenomenon, which is a consequence of using the acid. Exfoliation may continue up to one week.

5/ Is the procedure performed under local anaesthesia? If so, what substance is used (is it allergenic)?
It is not necessary to use anaesthesia.

6/ Is it a kind of treatment to use before special occasions, i.e. immediately afterwards the skin is not irritated and looks very good?
It depends on the type of peel and skin type. Sometimes there are no symptoms, and sometimes some redness, burning and slight swelling may appear.

7/ Is the skin irritated/red/swollen immediately after the treatment? If so, when do these symptoms disappear?
Minor irritation, redness, swelling or puffiness may occur. These symptoms disappear after a maximum of 7 days, and usually 2-3 days after the procedure.

8/ Can I go to work the next day after the procedure?
Yes you can, however, take into account the above mentioned symptoms. Ladies can apply stronger make-up, if the above symptoms appear.

9/ Can I use my usual skincare products (cleanser, creams, masks) after the treatment, or is any special care required?
Yes, you can. However, it is best to use products that support skin regeneration, recommended by the aesthetic dermatologist.

10/ Is it possible to apply make-up immediately after the procedure?
Yes, there are no contraindications.

11/ Can the procedure be performed in the summer? Is there a risk of discoloration after being exposed to the sun?
Treatments with acids are recommended in the autumn, winter and early spring. Performing them in the summer increases the risk of discoloration. It is absolutely inadvisable to do peels during the period of increased exposure to sunlight.

12/ Does the skin require high sunscreen protection after the treatment, i.e. use creams with high SPF?
Yes, the use of SPF 50+ protective creams is recommended.

13/ Is one treatment enough to achieve the effect, or should a series of treatments be chosen? If a series is required, how many treatments should be performed and at what intervals?
To achieve the best results, at least 5 treatments should be carried out systematically at intervals of 7-10 days.
